The PADRES ask: Anyone interested in Greg Vaughn? Would like to listen to offers and, possibly, would like to be overwhelmed. I'll let him go only if I'll receive an outrageous offer. Interested in under 30 years old only. Could also trade him after the draft, anyway ..... ...................................... NEW MANAGERS: Jesse McConnell (DIAMONDBACKS) Jason Masner (ROYALS) Both Jesse and Jason work at Don Tobin's office. I have included an updated IRBL Manager Address List. ...................................... The ATHLETICS have been reserved by a prospective new manager. ...................................... The teams that were lowered are noted by a dash and a number indicating the round the pick originated from. Please note that the differences in the draft order between the first and the second round is due to how the penalty points are applied: First, all teams that have penalties are lowered the appropriate number of spots. The remaining teams without penalties are moved up to fill the gaps. One team was lowered from the first round to IRBL # 566 12-25-98 3 the second round. When more than one team is lowered to the same spot, the team with more penalties gets lowered an extra spot. ...................................... 1998 SEASON DMB PLAYER FILES: The 1998 season DMB player files were released on Dec. 21st. If you did not receive it then contact DMB. ...................................... Updated IRBL rosters status: As I indicated in IRBL Newsletter # 564, due to the two new teams this year, I have to complete updating all my programs to handle 30 teams instead of 28 teams in order to process player trades, update and sort the IRBL rosters and create the IRBL season limits file. Unfortunately, I have had a really rough week. First I got sick with a bad cold (which makes it difficult to concentrate on modifying tedious program code). Then, on my way back from the doctor on Tuesday (on the way to the drug store to get an antibiotic medicine), I had a head-on car crash. This is my second head-on crash in 6 months. I was driving north, had a green light with me passing an intersection, but an "elderly" driver in the opposite direction made a left turn right in front of me (he did not yield the right of way) and I crashed right into his car. The front of my car is smashed in, the air bags deployed (and punched me in the nose and burned my hands) and I had to have my car towed to the repair shop (I had just gotten my car back about 2 months ago from the previous crash). Fortunately, this time I was not hurt as bad as last time (I am still going to physical therapy for my back twice a week due to the last accident). I was mainly just dazed a little (I was really lucky). The hassle of getting the car fixed and dealing with the insurance companies is just a time consuming effort that I could have done without (especially at this time). I have been victimized twice now this year by elderly drivers who no longer know that they must "yield the right of way" before turning into traffic. IRBL # 566 12-25-98 4 Anyone over 60 years old should be forced to take a driving test every year. My best estimate right now is about two more weeks to finish updating the IRBL programs. I would then distribute the updated IRBL files and set a date for the IRBL draft (which should be on a Sunday, mid to late February). ......................................
