All managers have paid their 1998 IRBL dues and are eligible to make trades except: Bill Koens *ATHLETICS Derrick Jensen *MARINERS *: The team draft order cannot be finalized until these managers who have LSP's or PUP's have officially signed up for the 1998 season. ...................................... MANAGER RESIGNATION: Bob French (ROCKIES) has resigned. He said that he just does not have the time to participate. PROBABLE RESIGNATIONS: Bill Koens (ATHLETICS): Although he said he would send me his dues a month ago, I have not received it. I emphasized to him that he was delaying the finalization of the team draft order. His email account has been IRBL # 545 12-27-97 2 disconnected, someone else's name is on the answering machine at his telephone number (and my message was not returned) and he has not responded to my letter mailed to his home address. Derrick Jensen (MARINERS): He does not know when he could pay his dues so I will have to drop him from the league once the team draft order is finalized. ...................................... TEAMS WITHOUT MANAGERS: EXPOS, ROCKIES (and possibly ATHLETICS and MARINERS). ...................................... Everyone should have received the 1997 season DMB player diskette and DMB version 7. If not, please contact the DMB company and get it as soon as possible. I will publish updated IRBL rosters with the next newsletter (if all goes well, by the end of next weekend) and I will finalize the team draft order. I will also have an IRBL Menu Program update that will switch you from using DMB version 6 to DMB version 7. Please be sure that you have DMB version 7 installed in the C:\DMB7 directory before you install the next LRD (LRD # 546). After you install LRD # 546, you can then delete DMB version 6 if you want to. ...................................... World Series dispute: The PHILLIES were leading the ROYALS, 3 games to 2, in the World Series, when the series returned to the ROYALS home ballpark to complete the series. Tom Dixon played the last two games (which the ROYALS won) but in an unprecedented situation, John Parker has protested the results of the last two games claiming that an agreement had been broken. I am waiting to hear Tom Dixon's side of the story in order for me to make a ruling. From what I understand, John and Tom had a conversation about playing the last two games over the telephone. Then Tom was involved in an auto crash and suffered some injuries. Tom then decided to play the games IRBL # 545 12-27-97 3 himself. I left Tom a message on the IRBL BBS 10 days ago but he has not read it yet. I tried calling Tom a week ago but there was no answer (no answering machine to leave a message on). I called again this evening and was able to leave a message on his machine this time. Until I hear from Tom, there is nothing more I can say about this. ...................................... Msg: 2 (Public, sent 12/08/97 at 07:09) From: MARK JOHNSON To: BARRY KOOPERSMITH (Received) Subj: NEW RULE PROPOSAL Dear Barry, I am even more opposed to the new proposal. 2 IP is wy too little and would restrict a manager's maneuverability too much. Take Care, Mark Msg: 3 (Public, sent 12/09/97 at 10:01) From: MICHAEL WALSH To: BARRY KOOPERSMITH (Received) Subj: NEW RULE The Rangers vote against the rule change proposal for inning limits for pitchers in the post season. A limit has to be set somewhere. If a change needs to made, maybe it is the lower limit of needing 50 innings. If I read the proposal correctly, a pitcher with less than 50 innings could be used for 2 innings. This could also be abused. Msg: 11 (Public, sent 12/11/97 at 11:34) From: RICKY DIAZ To: ALL MANAGERS Subj: DMB7 I went over and visited the www.diamond-mind.com page. I recommend you all do it because from there you can download an upgrade known as patch70b. The instructions on how to do it are very simple and you should have no problems. This upgrade was made to fix some bugs that were reported to dmb by league members. Msg: 12 (Public, sent 12/14/97 at 09:38) From: JOHN PARKER To: TOM DIXON Subj: WORLD SERIES Tom, very disappointed that you wouldn't play the games over the phone. When I called you, you said you would phone me back when you were ready to play. As I was off work all week and could play at anytime. I'm going to assume that you won both games as in your private message to me you didn't tell me the scores of the games just excuses as to why you didn't play. IRBL # 545 12-27-97 5 Msg: 14 (Public, sent 12/15/97 at 09:02) From: RICKY DIAZ To: JOHN PARKER (Received) Subj: (12)-WORLD SERIES Very well said John. Although I lost to you in the playoffs playing by phone made it very exciting. I feel that once you are in the post season it's out of common courtesy that when you are ready to play you hook up and play the games by phone. This allows the manager to make moves and not rely on the computer manager that we know has its faults. I'm not refering to winning or losing but courtesy. Either way I am sure it was an exciting series.
